Synthesis
Honey bees pollinate over 80% of the food we consume as people. They are very important to our society and we don't just use them as pollinators, we also eat their honey! I used synthesis three different ways throughout this project to highlight the bees. For Art, I synthesized my own desert using products of bees. It included fresh fruit and even honeycomb. For History, I researched the relationship between bees and beekeepers in order to create new ideas for natural bee keeping using synthesis. Lastly, for English I analyzed 5 different poems using the SOAPSTONE method, and then I took lines from each poem to synthesize a new one.
ART
For my synthesis project, I decided to work with food. Since honey is commonly used in the modern kitchen, I decided to see what I could do with it.
Bees pollinate rhubarb, strawberries, almonds and many more produce, but I decided to focus on these three. I create my own desert using ingredients that bees pollinate, and honeycomb. The end result was a sugar tart crust with rhubarb and strawberry filling. On top of this, I spread a honey whipped cream, then topped it with sliced honeycomb and slivered almonds.

In every kitchen you can find a bottle of honey. It is used worldwide as a sweetener and loved by many. Some people take their love of honey and bees to another level and become bee keepers. This hobby can be expensive and time consuming, but the outcome is worth it. For my project, I researched the relationship between people and bees. Using synthesis, I created a new step in the cycle in order to enhance the bees performance, while keeping them closer to their natural habitat. This essay explains what the cycle looks like now, and how we can add to it. Beekeepers work long and hard for their bees, but the synthesized steps I included could make live easier for both the bees and the keeper! One of the best ways to keep bees in their natural environment is to elevate their hive. They prefer higher areas because of predators, so this is a vital step for natural bee keeping.

English
Since my first year in Apollo, I've been using poems and songwriting for my projects. For my final presentation, I decided to synthesize 5 different poems about bees and make them into one. I chose poems written by Emily Dickenson, Hannah Flagg Gould, John B. Tabb, and Thomas Hastings to synthesize my poem. The first poem was a short piece about honey and clovers. The second piece was a call and response setup and it answered the question, "what do bees do in the winter?". The next piece was a descriptive poem and it was in a time setting of spring, right after the bees start to make honey. Next, there was a poem about a bee that stung someone and died because they lost their stinger. With all of these poems and diverse plots, I made my poem. This piece starts out in the winter, when all is cold and the bees are gone, then the poem switched to spring when the bees come out. The poem ends with a bee using its stinger, and then it passes. Below is the poem I synthesized and wrote.
