English
For my english project, I decided to write a poem using quotes and words from people on social media. The poem reflects the ways that social media impact people on a day to day basis. Below is the poem I wrote, with the words in red being other peoples quotes and feelings about themselves on social media. During this project, I realized that people on my page were more effected than I thought. Hearing their journey through social media really gave me the chance to put myself in other people's shoes.
Art
For my art project, I took instagram polls to see how many people pick through their photos before they post them. I chose to do a "raw photoshoot" for my project. For this, I had someone take only 3 photos of me, then I wasn't allowed to look through them or delete them before posting them. This didn't give me the freedom to choose a picture with my "good side" or ones that I wasn't confident in. The process was fun and I learned more about myself than ever. Self image is very important to a lot of teenagers-especially on social media, so this project put me out of my comfort zone. Below are the three pictures that I took and posted for my project.
History
The process for my project was really interesting because I got to look into the science of social media. I researched the different ways it can effect someone, and then I looked into addiction in social media. My final project is two letters that show the perspective of both sides of social media. The first letter is in the perspective of someone who is struggling with social media addiction, self-confidence and spending time off of their phone. The reply to that letter is from a medical professional, which I wrote using my research, that explains why she's feeling this way.
